Off Site Search Engine Optimization
Off site SEO is simply enhancing the visibility of the target page/pages or entire website through the use of relevant links. Relevant links are those links that point to your content from a relevant website. A relevant website is content that shares a similar theme to yours.
Link Relevancy
You have added your content, all of the “on site” SEO has been put into place, now it`s time to find relevant websites to your own contents theme, so how do you go about doing this? Well you already did when you set about finding out who you competition was, you “Googled” them using a list of keywords and phrases that you would like to be found for yourself. This time around though, it`s time to delve a little deeper into those search results, it`s not all about getting links from those on the first page of the SERP`s (Search Engine Result Pages) it`s about sharing out links to and from all those around you.
Most if not all of those resulting websites will have some kind of interactive content in this web 2.0 driven stage of the web and this is where participation comes into play, yes they are the competition, but remember that you already have your niche and it is this niche that will make you stand apart from those around you.
Genuinely commenting directly to relevant articles where possible, discussion within forums about your subject or products, even reciprocal link requests are still a valid and warranted way of gaining the exposure to your website.
The Relevant Link
The relevance of your link is of the utmost importance, whatever keywords or phrases you are targeting, must form the anchor text, the anchor text used must have relevance to the content you have, the best links are those that use the title you have chosen for that pages content. It really is as simple as that.
How many links should i have?
Don`t sweat it, it will never be about the number in the short term, it as all about the quality, the relevancy. Established authoratitive websites that link to your content will carry more weight, but do not forget that those websites on deeper search results pages will also carry a weight of their own, relevancy is the key, Links are King. Over time as other website admins, authors and editors find your content they will through their own judgement start linking to you, this organic growth will only help your cause.
My new site is hardly been found, what can i do?
New websites will always struggle for the first year or so, ranking factors do come into play and the age of your domain does MAY play a part. You are in it for the long haul anyway, so continue in your efforts.
