Mobilephones.co.uk sells for £91.5k is a post from: UK SEO Company SEO Begin

Tonight was my first voyeuristic glance at an Sedo auction, okay it was more doing a lot of tapping on F5 to watch it unfurl in the later stages and thanks to one @chrisclarkson and his tweet earlier in the day about the impending sale of mobilephones.co.uk i was intrigued.

I know the value of domains varies greatly and it is dependant on a lot of factors, as an seo i recommend a good keyword rich domain name as it does bring benefits to your ranking but that`s sales speak for another day.

Obviously there is a huge benefit to grabbing a keyword rich domain name & even more so if it is an aged one as in this case it`s been kicking about since 2001, that`s 9 years of pure Google sat in the cellar fruition if you are an advocate of algorithm fed ageism. 2 boxes ticked.

The hook for me as the later stages wore on was when those that i dare not speak of entered the fray, ok i dare speak, it was @MrScottJones, @glasgowdotcom and @ClarkeDuncan. Now to me this was kind of new, i watched with passing interest & equal amounts of jealousy when retweet.com sold for $250k and Todd Friesen a few days earlier had recounted his woes about not grabbing an opportunity of buying a domain which turned into gold.

You looking for a moral to buying a domain name?

From my point of view i tend to grab what i think may develop into an attractive market, or if you are lucky enough to have a fantastic marketing manager they will have recommended a domain to go after. Ageing like a fine wine, some will not be renewed some will see a 6 figure resell day *these are few and far between).

What was the fascinating thing about mobilephones.co.uk?

Well firstly it had sat parked for an eon, secondly it had 0 G links and 3 Y! links that was not the scary part, it had no, yes zero content. you catching me up on the domain name importance thing yet?

Ok, enough about domain name importance.

You will have obviously gathered by now that i am no expert in domain name buying (& selling). So who would i recommend? Well by the power of twitter i give you @MarkDaoust
of Internet Business Brokers this bloke comes with so many ticks against his name that the pencil lead ran out before i had finished.

I am not one accustomed to building huge lists, so here is a huge list. Why? 1. coz i can and 2. because they have all helped me in one way or another to develop a better understanding of what i am supposed to be doing and 3. because we all needed another list.

Should i categorize and pigeon hole all of these? I believe i should not, that would be wrong, nobody should be, they all offer relatively similar knowledge but from different angles, which helps to shape my focus on the direction and goals that i have, yours may be different. A big thankyou to Richard Shove for helping me put this list together in a less stressful way .

SEO 2010 is a post from: UK SEO Company SEO Begin

Such a random title for an seo post but 2010 holds so much for those brand new to seo. I will be giving every single one of you access to all of the tools of the trade plus a complete A to Z of SEO and what it means to you as a business owner. If you are already in the seo trade you will already be dissecting what i am offering. Thats cool to.

What i have learned in my my brief skit in seo (10+ years) is that you get to know nothing without a good read of the seo industry posts of thought leaders and those i have chose to feature on seo begin are by far and away amongst those that are at the cutting edge of what we do.

I would love to put a scientific post together about how great i was for achieving a ranking about a specific keyphrase, but that would defeat the object of what i do.

SEO truly is a game, don`t get me wrong .. all of those in the seo industry will share a lot of method, but we will never give the exact method, thats ours for the keeping. If we shared the exact methodology for exact rankings for your keyphrase.. we would truly give away our advantage. Don`t get me wrong, SEO is such a generic term that every man and his dog is using it to sell you his wares, but only those who know what the hell they are doing will deliver the results you are looking for.

2010 holds a different kind of prospect for seo, we are always at the mercy of the G algo change, the latest being the caffeine update for which us in the UK will not see ant kind of change until early 2010. Early analyltical data suggests that if your campaigns have been solid then you have no worries, i was fortunate enough to try out the sandbox before this new release went live and it basically suggested that solid linking and rankings would remain the same. If you were one of those practising the black art for 2010 you are buggered, plain and simple, you are buggered.. why bother trying to cheat and representing shite when in essence offering your visitors true value for the products you seem to be ranking for.

There is a huge short cut for SEO for 2010!!!

It does not get much simpler than this: ON site SEO

Use the keywords you are targeting in the title tags

Use the keywords you are targeting in the page URL

For gods sake use the keywords you are targeting within the content you have just created, don`t get creative about keyword density.. sooner or later you will begin to rank. Why? plainly because you were natural about what you wrote about.

It gets simpler still: OFF site SEO

It`s all about the links, yep links… no not those ones that link from your YouFace account (i`am taking the piss) i am talking about those links that are editorial, those links that are attracted through the genuine content that you are offering, if it is worth linking to, they will. Which is where it gets a little tricky. OK so this post is worth linking to as a basic seo for 2010, that is all it is meant to be, i know though sheer volume that this post will be skim read to such a degree that it will attract basic links, those links that will link to it just for the basis of association to a relevant theme and i know it will attract about 200 comments which Askimet will block, this i could not give 2 fucks about because i know they are shite, but maybe you are starting to get my drift.

Link Quality matters

If there is a single bloke i respect in the link building world it is Eric Ward, he knows his turmoil inside out and standing on his head, Debra Mastaler is another who takes link analysis to another level.

These guys are absolute nailed on fact dedicated to dissolving links to the inc degree and are masters in the art of unearthing the hardiest of perrenials, i respect these time traveled librarians of internet global architecture and by god they fit into that methodology that we as ultimately link builders that we all aspire to.

“It’s mostly about reviews (good and bad), SEO, Wordpress, newspapers, how to do things and the internet in general.”

I found Malcolm through twitter and i have enjoyed reading his posts so much i thought it was only right and proper that you guys get to see his posts via rss as well.

This is the saga of my trying to link to the Royal Mail site.

eHow's advice - can you trust what it says? - Tue, 09 Mar 2010
eHow says Acai Berries are wonderful - eat them. But having installed the bit.ly one, it turned out to be a bit of a pain.

Instructions on the internet for how to remove / delete extensions for google's Chrome (I'm running version 5.0.307.11 beta) are sadly lacking - or way overcomplicated. It turned out to be quite easy.

Google knows what clothes i am wearing via SideWiki is a post from: UK SEO Company SEO Begin

Well we are yet not 24 hours into the launch of the product and we are looking for vulnerabilities, how could it be gamed to turn it to the advantage of the spammers. Well in all honesty it took Michael Gray not very long at all.

There are plenty of conversations to be had exploding up all over the web already and i am not alone in the thought of G having too much power Gab Goldenberg writes: “Google SideWiki Extorts Google Network Participation” and conveys a similar fear to my own;

Worst of all, you can’t block Google’s SideWiki from appearing alongside your website so as to opt-out. It’s also unclear whether webmasters will even know when their site is being displayed with SideWiki

One simple tag within the html of mine and my clients sites would make me go away, it`s as easy as that.

Why a simple tag? well the reputation management issues alone are a worry for brands, brands which have no control over the comments being posted via sidewiki relying on the voting up or down feature and functionality within. We are quite happily installing features such as Get Satisfaction that we have a modicum of control over, at least we can answer our customers and critics directly. Beyond that we already have our WordPress, Blogger, Echo commenting systems in place which we are free to moderate.

So what is the impact from an serp point of view? again i will refer back to Michael Gray who is among the first to track down one of his own comments to see if it has been indexed and sure enough there it is.

Again since Google has a good idea of what clothes i am wearing right now, i am kind of uncomfortable about letting Google predict what i might wear tomorrow with all their newly found data, all of which i am submitting every time i comment using Sidewiki, for that i am not comfortable with at all. So once again a simple meta tag to opt out of allowing those with Google profiles and the toolbar installed would suit me, then those with a fetish for commenting on others sites can continue on their merry way while i remain happy in the knowledge that mine and my clients sites are free from brand management issues.

EDIT: More discussions about SideWiki worth watching and participating in and give your feedback about Sidewiki to Google Toolbar Help

SEO and the Wonder Wheel is a post from: UK SEO Company SEO Begin

How far has Google come in terms of understanding search patterns and related terms? Well a long way would be one way of putting it, but after playing about with the Wonder Wheel (not my voice or vid) for a few months now i wanted to see how far i could stretch the term SEO to see where i ended up and although a lot of people have us seo`s pigeon holed much like your own industry ,the results are very suprising.

So let`s start with “SEO” as the main search using the Wonder Wheel

The search for SEO according to the wonder wheel tells me Google relates 8 seperate levels below the term in importance.

SEO Book

SEO Blog

SEO Software

SEO Techniques

SEO Guide

SEO Tips

SEO Tutorial

SEO Tools

A lot can be read into why these terms are appearing here like this, maybe the great work over the years from Aaron Wall and his SEO Book brand might explain why that term appears. Again SEO Blog shows another appearance from Aaron and Michael Gray`s Wolf-howl.com.

Ok let`s delve deeper into each of these second level terms.

SEO Book

A click on SEO Book explodes into a 3rd level which as an SEO i can immediately associate the terms with SEO`s within the industry.

seo chat

seo elite

search engine land – Danny Sullivan

seo book aaron – Aaron Wall

Matt Cutts

seomoz – Rand Fishkin

google adwords

adwords

Good branding? Why does Google Adwords appear here? SEO Elite as far as i know is “SEO Software” so why is it a sub category of SEO Book?

SEO Blog

Before i even click on that term within the wheel i am expecting to see the SEO thought leaders in there but what suprises will i get this time? Let`s have a look.

Yes as suspected, not exactly what you would expect to find in there but a few are.

Keyword density SEO

San Jose SEO

SEO Wordpress Blog

Black Hat SEO Blog

Long Tail SEO

Matt Cutts SEO

Search Engine Optimization SEO

SEO Search Engine Optimisation

2 versions of the spelling for “optimisation” personally as you can see i prefer the “s” but our friends over the pond lean towards the “z”, San Jose SEO which should imho be in a category for SEO Conferences, Keyword Density under “SEO Tools”. But surely i am just nit picking, right?

SEO Software

Ok, so we are expecting to see SEO Elite appear here due to the affiliate program associated with it and the large number of links it must have garnered. Let`s see.

inbound links seo

seo submission software

seo ranking software

seo elite software

seo link popularity

free seo software

search engine optimization seo

best seo software

Ok SEO Elite has made an appearance, but we expected that and rightly so it is in the right category of the Wonder Wheel.

I did not expect to see seo link popularity in therre i would have that down under SEO Tools.

SEO Techniques

Moving on with SEO Techniques, now if you are wondering am i second guessing or targeting anything in particular within this post, no i am genuinely writing it as i see it and guessing at results before i click the results within the wonder wheel. I have to say though that i am intrigued to what i will find when i click on SEO techniques. Will it be the expected white/gray/blue/black seo? or will it point me into up to date methodologies in the SEO art? let`s have a look.

anchor text seo

doorway pages seo

seo copywriting

meta description tag

seo robots txt

search engine optimization seo

seo meta tags

Nope completely wrong, was i right to assume what i was going to see? of course i wasn`t, as an old fella once told me, “to assume makes and ass out of u and me”. Again though there are a few suprising inclusions.

SEO Guide

What every soul new to seo craves, a guide to SEO something to make their life a little easier, something that is going to lay down an a – z of how to optimize their sites, will we find the holy grail within the wonder wheel.

Well i am afraid King Arthurs SEO Quest got confused somewhere along the way, wait a minute King Arthur never had an SEO quest, now i am babbling but it seems wordpress as an seo tool is very apparent among this wonder wheel result.

SEO Tips

That`s what we are after, seo tips, that little bit of something that will help us through the rainy days and guide us out of the wilderness, am i becoming slowly bitter at the wonder wheel as i use it? should i be getting bitter at a google tool like this?

SEO ranking tips, seo advice, fantastic stuff! just what i would be looking for. You have probably noticed by now that i have not delved into the 3rd level results of the wonder wheel.

SEO Tutorial

So you are looking to learn SEO from the beginning and you are looking at the wonder wheel shortly after discovering it, you click on “seo tutorial” and you will be faced with how to articles galore.

keyword density seo

inbound links seo

search engine optimization seo

anchor text seo

Not one mention of how to seo this or seo that, just more results that point to what i would expect to be in different 2nd level categories. In fact “tutorial” does not even get a mention. hmmmm.

SEO Tools

Now before clicking on this result i would be suprised if i did not see an immediate relation to Rand, Aaron and SEOChat in there.

Call me suprised but i could not see an immediate relationship to any of the aforementioned, i am pleased to see that there are related queries in there, not perfect but a great starting point.

So that is a brief look into the wonder wheel for “seo” but what have i learned from it? Well taking all of the results from the second level and throwing them into Excel i find that of the 60 results Matt Cutts appears 3 times within different categories and seo is mentioned 51 times.

Overall Googles Wonder Wheel is a great tool that does help you delve into more recent search results through the search options panel and it is intriguing using it, but as yet i am still to adopt it as a keyword research tool. I am even willing to try a little experiment to build a complete website using only wonder wheel as my inspiration, i am yet to decide upon an url or keyword and phrase for the experiment, but i will keep you posted.

The Nintendo Wii was both ridiculed and praised for its unique controller system — the Wiimote — which detects movements in three dimensions.

Three and a half years later, the Wii has dominated the market, shattered sales records, and put its two main rivals, Microsoft and Sony, on the defensive. Both companies are responding with motion-based controllers of their own though.

Microsoft has generated some big buzz with the revelation of Project Natal, a new camera-based system that requires no controller, just the movement of your body to function. And yesterday, Sony officially announced PlayStation Move, a controller setup that utilizes a camera and a remote-like controller to interact with the screen.

Here’s the question we have for all of you gamers: which next-generation controller system excites you more: Microsoft’s Natal or Sony’s Move?

Our poll for this week’s <a

Dating site PlentyOfFish somehow managed to get prominent placement (fast forward to 4:27 if you’d rather skip the rest of it).

Early indications are that “Telephone” will be every bit as popular as recent Gaga hits, with the song, its participants, and even a string from its URL already dominating trending topics on Twitter ahead of its official premiere on E! later this evening. It also briefly took Vevo — YouTube and the record labels new music video website — offline.

Here’s the embed for what could be the latest member of the 100 million view club (“Just Dance” also recently broke the milestone):

Update: It looks like someone might have jumped the gun at YouTube/Vevo, as the video seems to be going back and forth between private and public. Here’s a few images we were able to grab while we had it open:

Update #2: Vevo now PlayStation Move, Sony’s answer to the Wii Remote and Microsoft’s upcoming Project Natal motion controller. In a demonstration yesterday, the company showed off the device, which utilizes remote-like controllers and the PlayStation Eye camera to capture your movements and turn them into actions on the screen.

We’ve seen plenty of screenshots and heard a lot about the controller’s capabilities, but we wanted to find out for ourselves whether it really could make the PlayStation more competitive with its counterparts. That’s why I decided to take the system for a test drive here at the Game Developer’s Conference (GDC) in San Francisco, California.

Did it live up to expectations? Could it challenge Nintendo and Microsoft in gaming? I’ve got some thoughts on the matter:

PlayStation Move: Sony Played It Safe

First, a little bit about the PlayStation Move: it is a two-part control system. First are the handheld controllers, which act essentially as Wiimotes. The main controller comes with a lighted color ball on the top though — this is an essential component for the second part of the Move: the PlayStation Eye camera, which tracks your movements on screen. Combined, you get a controller system.

When I held the remote-like device in my hands and actually got to play with it, I immediately became aware of two things: its accuracy and its augmented reality features. It feels just a little more precise than a Wiimote with the MotionPlus controller. Because it uses the camera rather than the senor bar that the Wii utilizes, it can more accurately catch your motions. It also translates them onto the screen with your face on the TV.

I was impressed with the augmented reality aspect of the PlayStation Move more, though. The lighted ball on my controller turned first into a paintbrush, and then a fly swatter. It didn’t have the lag that a lot of other systems deal with, which made the experience enjoyable.

Is it that much better than the Wii, though? To be honest, I think the answer to that question depends on how developers use the PlayStation Eye camera to enhance their games. If they focus on the controllers, then it’s just a fancy Wiimote. If it focuses on bringing you into the game via the camera, then there are some real possibilities.

In the end though, Microsoft’s Project Natal is still going to garner the attention and the hype, as it is a bolder step into motion control. Sony essentially played it safe with the Move, while Microsoft’s implementing an all-or-nothing strategy with Natal.

Here is me in action with the PlayStation Move:

PlayStation Move Demo Video

Tags: Eclipse trailer, unloading it to the Internet to the joy of many a video site. She did the same thing with the New Moon trailer, apparently, and garnered half a million hits.

If you have an extra six minutes or so (and some high-quality ear plugs), you could take a peek at her new video… or not. But now you totally are, because I told you not to. #reversepsychology

Reviews: <a
